JOB DETAILS
Discovery School has a part-time Teacher/part-time SEA position (together, it is a 0.2 FTE, on Fridays only) at the High School level available. The teaching courses are Art Grades 10-12, Drama/Dance Grade 9, and Marketing 11. The teaching time is salary-based, and the other two SEA blocks are paid on a per-hour rate. The person hired will assist with duty and extra-curricular activities and will also be given substitute teaching opportunities within the school, as scheduling and situation permits. The position requires an energetic, organized teacher who has demonstrated excellence in curriculum delivery. Discovery School is an independent school for diverse students with various learning needs.
Qualification:
- Must be a BC certified teacher and in good standing with the Teacher Regulation Board.
- Possess superb written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal skills.
- First aid certification must be updated, or the candidate must be willing to update.
- Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector/Criminal Record Check from the TRB (or submitted at time of job offer if certification is in process).

- Be able to design lessons that will motivate and engage active learning.
- Model effective instructional practices and provide diverse learning opportunities.
- Have positive, proactive classroom management skills.
- Use learning strategies, resources, and instruments that support best practices in instruction for students with learning needs to succeed.
- Work collaboratively with staff on report cards.
- Be flexible, professional, positive, organized, and team-oriented.
- Build trusting relationships and engage in open, continuous communication with students, staff, and parents.
