The Discover Your Potential Bursary Program

A Discovery School & Neal Estate Team Community Initiative

At Discovery School, we provide an environment where our students engage in learning tailored to their unique aptitudes, and we also endeavour to help our students engage meaningfully with our communities. As our students progress to their post-secondary pursuits we hope to equip them with the skills they require to forge their own path with confidence.

The Neal Estate Team believes that our next generation possesses the potential to change our world for the better, and an investment in young people is an investment in our community.

Discovery School and the Neal Estate Team are proud to partner for an exclusive bursary program, available only for Discovery School students. We are delighted to introduce the Discover Your Potential Bursary Program.

The DYP Bursary will be awarded to one Grade 12 student who will be initiating his or her post-secondary education in the next 12 months following graduation from Discovery School. The successful candidate is one who is already actively contributing to their community, and possesses a discernible vision to contribute in meaningful ways to the world we live in.

Cameron’s Story

The Neal Estate Team has chosen to award this bursary to students from Discovery School because we have a personal connection. Ron Neal’s son Cameron attended this school.
Cameron Neal transferred to Discovery School from the public school system so that his unique approach to learning could be fostered in a more supportive environment. According to Cam, his teachers “were empowered to guide us, as human beings, rather than telling [us] 'right' from 'wrong’. “

He goes on to describe how Discovery School’s small classrooms enabled him to develop true friendships that had alluded him in the past. Had it not been for Discovery School, Cam fears he would have become isolated in his career path as a developer and researcher, possibly forgetting that the outside world provides the motivation for inquiry and creativity in the first place. Since graduating from Discovery in 2009, Cam launched his own blog at www.abundanceconomica.ca, where he explores the intersections between technology, biology, human civilization, ecology, and economy.
